Tan Sri Dr. Syed Jalaludin
Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Syed Jalaludin bin Syed Salim is a renowned Malaysian academician and veterinary scientist with over five decades of leadership in education, science, and corporate development.
He holds a Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the University of London and Bachelor degrees in Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan.
A former Vice Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (1994–2001), he was instrumental in transforming UPM into one of Malaysia’s leading centres for agricultural and scientific education. He later served as Pro Chancellor (2018–2024) and has also held academic positions at Universiti Malaya, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, and Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR).
Currently, he serves as:
- First Chancellor, Taylor’s University (since 2016)
- Chairman of the Board of Directors, Asia e University (since 2007)
- Chairman of the Board of Governors, University College Fairview
- Independent Non-Executive Chairman, PT Resources Holding Berhad and SL Innovation Capital Berhad
Previously, he was Chairman of Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) (2006–2016), launching the world’s first Global Data Halal Pool (GDHP). He also served as Chairman of Bank Rakyat (2003–2012) and BioAlpha Holdings Berhad (2014–2023).
Tan Sri Syed Jalaludin is a Founder and Senior Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (FASc) and has published over 350 scientific and educational papers. He has served on numerous national and international bodies including the World Association of Animal Production and the Commonwealth Veterinary Association.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he has received multiple honors and awards, including:

- National Academic Laureate (2007)
- Anugerah Tokoh Maal Hijrah Perlis (2018)
- Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) – Title of Tan Sri (1998)
